![]() I have used treehouse and their videos are fantastic (unfortunately they don't have much in the way of data science). Coding is difficult, having someone show you what to do and walk you through difficult topics is important. You basically read an essay about a topic, that is what their curriculum is. Third, THEY DON'T HAVE VIDEOS!!! Another thing I wish i knew prior to signing up. This shows how outdated their curriculum is. This caused constant problems most notably with the map function and range/xrange functions. I wish they would have put this on your website prior to me signing up, I was not going to reset up my whole system for an outdated version of python. ![]() Second, I am running python 3 but their curriculum uses python 2 for some reason. I spent way too much time figuring out what was wrong with their code (wait, I thought they were supposed to be teaching me?) Similarly, I would run code they provided and get error messages because they either didn't have numpy or some other package loaded in and so I would have to figure out what was wrong and fix it myself. They would provide a link to a file but that link did not grab the data and I had to have my mentor email it to me after trying for two hours to find it online / on github. ![]() However, more than once a file did not load into python because it didn't exist. Here are the things I found terrible about this course:įirst, running through the examples should be seamless meaning all the code should work when I run it. If I had to sum up this course in one sentence it would be "$500 a month for Cliffs notes". I personally thought this was the worst investment I have ever made and left the program after a month (I made sure I finished in a month so I wouldn't be charged again because i knew from the first week this was the biggest waste of money). I am not affiliated with any learning platform and I am just someone who wanted to get better with python for data science. I have just finished the Thinkful Data Science in Python course. I welcome all thoughts and feedback whether on Thinkful, or if you have been in a similar situation! Have received feedback from hiring managers that I do not qualify for this type of work with my current MS in epiįeel like this would be a good opportunity to get project based learning and really push me to learn the tools (as opposed to the low/no stakes option of free MOOCs that I have already tried). Interest in using more advanced tools in similar analyses to previous work, advisor is not interested in this development, nor any I have talked to in department. What are people's experiences with this program? I read a wide range of opinions of it online so I wanted some straight talk.Įpidemiology PhD accepted, not enrolled because of a long story on tuition remission. I felt like my point of contact was earnest in communicating with me, but am skeptical of how fast I was considered viable (no technical interview). I was just "accepted" to start Thinkful's bootcamp for data science.
